Led Horse Rides Near Mudgee, For All Ages
One of the most loved experiences at Ba Mack Farmstay is our gentle led horse rides around our property, specially designed for children and adults to enjoy in a safe, calm farm environment.
If you are looking for something to do with the children while you are staying in Mudgee, a led horse ride at Ba Mack Farmstay is such a wonderful experience for your family and we would be delighted to host you.
Led horse rides are available every day at 12.30pm and sometimes other times as well. Please check our Availability Calendar to find a date and time that will suit your family.
We can offer two options for our rides:-

These rides are slow, relaxed, and all about helping children and adults feel comfortable, confident, and happy around our beautiful horses.
How a led horse ride works
Every one of our rides is led on foot around our property. Farmer Kate and I walk beside the horses, holding them on a lead the whole way, and our horses only ever walk, never anything faster and it is the same for every rider no matter how experienced, so we are not able to offer trail rides or lessons off the lead.
The walking pace and the leading are exactly what makes it work for a very nervous little one, and for anyone who has never sat on a horse before.
To ensure every rider receives plenty of care and attention, we offer a maximum of two riders at a time.
Our horses range from 15 hands to 16 hands and they are very gentle, so we can accommodate all children and adults.
The two horses go one in front of the other rather than side by side, because they each walk at their own pace. We do stop several times along the way and stand them beside each other, so you can take as many pictures as you would like.
If you would rather not ride, you are very welcome to walk along beside your child and take photographs of them having a wonderful time.
Riding with your child
We have two horses, Farmer Kate leads one and I lead the other, so up to two people ride at a time. If you would like to ride with your child, you are very welcome to. Please note there is a 100kg weight limit per rider.

Perfect for Nervous Riders
If you or your child is unsure or a little nervous around horses, please don’t worry. Our horses are calm, patient, and well-accustomed to children and nervous riders. We take the time to gently introduce each rider, allowing riders to build confidence at their own pace.
Everyone loves that this is a personal, one-on-one experience, not a rushed group activity. Every ride is tailored to suit your comfort level and your family’s needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should we wear for a led horse ride?
Riders must wear long pants or jeans and enclosed footwear.
Please do not wear thongs or sandals.
Do we need to bring a riding helmet?
A riding helmet is compulsory for all horse rides.
Helmets are available on the farm for you to use during your ride, however you are most welcome to bring your own riding helmet if you prefer.
What happens if the weather is unsuitable
For safety reasons, led horse rides can only operate when weather conditions are suitable.
Can I ride with my child?
Yes. We have two horses, Farmer Kate leads one and I lead the other, so up to two people ride at a time. You are very welcome to ride with your child.
Do the horses walk side by side?
No, the two horses go one in front of the other, because they each walk at their own pace. We do stop several times along the way and stand them beside each other, so you can take as many pictures as you would like.
How old does my child have to be?
There is no age restriction at all. We do not double on our horses, so every rider has a horse to themselves. A one year old is not too young, they simply ride on their own, led by us with a parent walking beside them.
My child is very nervous. Will they be alright?
Every one of our rides is led on foot. Farmer Kate or I walk beside the horse holding it on a lead the whole way, and our horses only ever walk, never anything faster. That is exactly what makes it work for a very nervous little one, and for anyone who has never sat on a horse before.
What if they change their mind once they are up there?
That is no trouble at all. You are very welcome to swap riders in and out as often as you like. Swapping does not add any time on the end and it does not change the price.
I would rather not ride myself. Can I still come along?
Of course. You are very welcome to walk along beside your child and take photographs of them having a wonderful time.
Can we go for a trail ride, or ride on our own?
So sorry, every one of our rides is led on foot and it is the same for every rider no matter how experienced, so we are not able to offer lessons off the lead or a trail ride.
How do we book, and when do we pay?
Bookings are essential and can be made by email or over the phone on (02) 6373 8312, whichever is easiest for you. There is nothing to pay beforehand and payment is made in cash on the day.
